Exhibition: “Picasso. Window to the world”
Pablo Picasso was a Jack of all trades, the world is at your feet. Still, there are aspects in his work, which are little known: The Spaniard has a Passion for window.

Irrepressible Will
The Spanish artist Pablo Picasso (1881 -1973) stands for Modern art of the 20. Century like no other. He was a painter, graphic artist, ceramicist, sculptor, wrote poems and plays. This photo has the photographer Robert Doisneau, Picasso’s strong hands bear witness to the enormous creativity, his Lifelines for energy. More than 40,000 works of art he has left behind.

Traditionally painted
An early work by Picasso from the year 1900. The view of a snowy urban landscape – the actual image, as in a picture frame. Picasso had this year at the Paris Montmartre is a Studio rented. He met fellow artists such as Matisse and Toulouse-Lautrec to know that often Fenstermotive in their studios painting. 1901 was the young painter back to Spain.

The son, as harlequin
Circus people, dancers and especially harlequins were from the beginning of his career as an artist to Picasso’s most popular motifs. Later, they dive again and again in his Work. The painting “Paulo as Pierrot” was created in 1925 and shows Picasso’s son next to a window. It is one of the most spectacular works in the exhibition.

Revolutionary Abstraction
Picasso’s cubist Phase ushered in a new Era: the figures on his pictures, resolved themselves into abstract areas of color. The picture “Studio bust and Gipsfragmenten” dates from the year 1925. Picasso had in Paris close contact with the French Surrealists, Breton and Aragon. A ballet by Eric Satie has been with a set by Picasso.

Muses as models
All of his wives and countless Beloved has Pablo Picasso in images immortalized. As in life, he was as self-indulgent in his artistic exploitation. “Woman at the window sitting. Marie-Thérèse” was created in 1932. Two years later met Picasso, the photographer Dora Maar know, his Muse and life companion. Women at the window is dedicated to the exhibition of a separate Department.

Picasso’s Late
The strong, bright colours of his early Work was in later years rather muted colors of the place. “The shadow”, which is today in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem hangs, was founded in 1953. In the year, it had his longtime companion and mother of his children Paloma and Claude, Jacqueline Gilot, leave. A dark Chapter of his life, in the window appears.

Again and again: his Studio
1955 bought by Picasso, meanwhile, schwerreich and internationally famous, the Villa “La Californie” in the Hinterland of Cannes. The view from the window of my Studio gave him a strong artistic Inspiration. As he because of constant harassment by tourists in the Provence had to pull, he returned again and again in this sanctuary back in order to work there incognito.

Window to the world
The view from the window was to the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso in every period of his highly creative life as an artist a challenge. Especially in phases of reorientation, he came to like the classic Windows theme back. The Exhibition “Picasso. Window to the world” is up for 16. May 2016 in the Bucerius Forum in Hamburg.

He designed it on canvas and matchbooks, created it as a view of the outside world and as a point of view on itself: The window was for Pablo Picasso’s lifelong motif. It focuses on the See, for the Spanish classics of the Modern age (1881-1973), it became the Symbol of the painting at all. This has so far been rather unknown aspect of the art of the Grand master dedicated the Bucerius Kunst Forum in Hamburg according to its own information the world’s first exhibition. Under the title “Picasso. Window to the world” are there from this Saturday until 16. May, about 40 paintings, drawings and graphic works.
The window runs like a thread through Picasso’s art
Around 50 Picasso pictures by photographers such as Robert Doisneau, Edward Quinn, and Brassai complement the presentation. Lender are international collections such as the Picasso museums in Barcelona and Paris, and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. “The window is in Picasso the interface of the artist and the world,” said Ortrud Westheider, Director of the house. In times of upheaval and reorientation, whether he ever again returned. The “window” have all periods have survived in his work, otherwise, like divided, such as in the blue or the Cubist Phase.
