OCZ announces new pci-e ssd

OCZ released its latest Z-Drive announced. Revision 4 of the the pci-express-ssd should be, thanks to the use of four to eight controllers, speeds up to 2800MB/s. The solid state drive is primarily for servers referred to.

The Z-Drive R4 will be in two formats are available: pci-express card with full-height and half-height’card. The small cards fit into enclosures where space for cards with half-length available; the larger cards have three-quarters of the maximum dimensions. The low-profile card in capacities of 300GB, 600GB and 1.2 TB available, while the map full size in capacities of 800GB, 1.6 TB and 3.2 TB can be delivered.

The cards have an interface with a server with eight pci express lanes, enough for 32Gb/s of unidirectional bandwidth. The storage capacity is provided by mlc-memory chips, which are powered by four to eight controllers from SandForce. An OCZ SuperScale Storage Controller comprises the ssd controllers by means of the Virtualized Controller Architecture of OCZ. The drives achieve transfer rates for read and write 2800MB/s. To protect against data loss to prevent, the drives are optionally equipped with Power Fail Protection technology.

The cards with eight controllers get 410.000 iops when writing random data in 4K blocks, while the maximum achievable writing speed at 500,000 iops, respectively. The drives with four controllers get up to 260.000 iops; write 4KB blocks amounts to 250,000 iops. The drives support 128 – and 256-bit-aes-encryption and trim, and get the three year warranty. Prices are not yet known.
