The American WIMM Labs has its WIMM Platform ge lwa device, with which devices the size of a watch can be made. These devices are equipped with a 1.4″touchscreen and a 667MHz cpu, and running Android.
On hardwarevlak is the platform from a compact pcb, which support for gps, wi-fi and bluetooth is built in, and that is also an accelerometer and compass on board. The whole is powered by an unspecified chip on 667MHz and has up to 32GB storage memory. The whole measure 32×36×12.5 mm and weighs 22g.
To save battery power, the screen can be used in both a normal and a transflectieve mode. In the former mode the screen color to show, while in the transflectieve mode the backlight is turned off and the screen uses ambient light. This technique is comparable with that of PixelQi.
The platform makes use of the Android operating system, which it easy for developers to develop applications. These “Micro Apps” can view the information on the 1.4″ touchscreen and via bluetooth or wi-fi using a smartphone to communicate. Users can over wi-fi via a web interface, log in and change settings and install applications.
WIMM Labs is not intend to under his own name, devices to bring, but hopes that the platform for other companies, the threshold lowers to go to work. Companies can have a license on the hardware platform, this build in a self-designed housing, and then at Foxconn in China produce. Foxconn has a deal with WIMM Labs, and earlier this year also an investment in the company.
WIMM Labs is currently working together with a select number of interested companies. In the third quarter of this year is the SDK available for free, so developers can get started with writing apps.
