“Android runs on almost half of the worldwide sold smartphones”

According to market research firm Canalys, the Android operating system used for nearly one in two in the second quarter of this year sales of smartphones. In total there were in that quarter 107,7 million units sold.

Canalys has estimated that Android with 51,9 million sold smartphones, with a market share of 48 percent has been achieved in the second quarter of 2011. The internet sales represents a growth of 379 percent compared with the same period last year. Samsung contributed with 17 million handsets sold the most to the Android-sale. Biggest asset is the Galaxy S II, which since its release at the end of april more than 5 million copies sold. Googles mobile operating system does particularly well in Asia. It is, in South Korea, 85 percent of the smartphones on Android. In Western Europe, Android is already since the fourth quarter of 2010, market leader.

Apple sold in the second quarter of this year, 20.3 million smartphones, which is good for a share of 19 percent. Microsoft’s mobile operating system Windows Phone did it with sales of just 1.5 million units and not even 1 percent market share is less good. Canalys made no figures are available of the global market share of the other smartphonebesturingssystemen. Of Nokia, that are smartphones with Symbian releases, however, it is known that there are 16.7 million smartphones were sold in the last quarter, while RIM month and a half ago let us know in the first quarter of the fiscal year of 2012, 13.2 million blackberrys have been sold. Therefore, Android is currently by far the largest mobile operating system on the smartphone market. Apple, however, remains the ranking of smartphonefabrikanten argue.

The strong growth of the Android does not come as a surprise. The operating system has already in many parts of the world, the first place on the smartphone market over and Google let rather know now more than 500,000 Android devices per day to activate, with this number still growing.
