Portal 2 delivers EA good quarter

Electronic Arts has released its first quarter of fiscal year 2012, over higher ended than the same quarter last year. The main reason for the increase is the success of Portal 2, which, in total, three million copies sold.

Of the total number of three million copies has EA there are two million sold, as the company Tuesday announced at the presentation of its quarterly figures. The rest of the sales went through Steam. Except this year it released game Portal 2 also did some of EA’s earlier products on the market the yet well from april to June; also FIFA 11 and Crysis 2, and boosted the quarterly revenue of the American publisher, up to 999 million dollars.

Portal 2 is developed by Valve and was used by the developer itself sold through its own Steam platform. Electronic Arts was responsible for the physical release of the game. The turnover of the approximately one million via Steam purchased copies have been produced, is obviously not made by EA included in the quarterly figures.

Approximately twenty percent of EA’s revenue of just under a billion dollars had to come from digital sales. The publisher put up with this type of sale about 209 million dollars. The quarterly revenue of 999 million dollars is substantially higher than the 815 million dollars that the company between april and June 2010 converted. EA also made a higher profit for the quarter; 221 million dollars to 96 million dollars in the same period a year ago.

For the full 2012 financial year ended 31 march 2012 ends, has EA the expectations adjusted upwards. Instead of a turnover between the 3.73 and 3,95 billion dollars expected EA to come between 3,83 and 4,03 billion dollars, which is expected to lead to high revenue due to the releases of FIFA 12 and Battlefield 3.
