Memory manufacturers, Toshiba and Sandisk have their joint factory for the production of 24nm flash memory open. The factory is in Japan and should not only 24nm products, but in the long term memory on 19nm produce.
In July last year, Toshiba started construction of the factory, which if Fab 5 is known. Fab 5 was central in Japan, in Mie prefecture, built and operated by Flash Forward, such as the joint venture is baptized. Toshiba has a share of 50.1 per cent in Flash Forward and the remaining 49,9 percent is in the hands of Sandisk. From next month the first wafers of the production lines rolling, as were companies known.
The flash memory is in Fab 5, according to a 24nm process manufactured; to this end, 300mm wafers are used. The plant would have a production capacity of approximately 210.000 wafers, one of the largest 300mm facilities in the world. Fab 5 has a floor area of approximately 187.000 square meters, and is connected with two other factories in the territory.
In the longer term, Fab 5 be upgraded to nand flash memory according to a manufacturing process of 19nm to make. When that change was made must be made by both companies is not yet known. The nand memory must be in consumer electronics and solid state drives are used.
