Android 5.1 would be the silent mode back that Google has removed in Android 5.0. Reports that the Android-fansite AndroidPit. Version 5.1 would be within a month or three to appear, so claims the site.
The release of Android 5.1 Lollipop is scheduled for the first quarter of 2015, so for the end of march, says AndroidPit. The quiet mode is a feature that some users miss in Android 5.0. The function is accessible by volume down to 0, and then, devices running Android versions up to 4.4 first, the ‘vibrate-mode’ activated, and with another press the volume button the ‘silent mode’ turning on. That function no longer works in Android 5.0: only the “vibration mode” is still accessible. A function to control the sound and vibration off, but notifications still to come, is not there.
In addition to the return of the silent mode seems to adjust the colors in Googles material design, the only other adjustment. For the rest, it goes in the changelog that AndroidPit publishes mainly for bug fixes.
If Google is indeed Android 5.1 for the end of march release, then that is a change compared to previous updates, from version 4.2 released it just, every year, a major update to it; in between it went to smaller releases with version numbers as 4.4.2.
Google has not confirmed about a possible Android 5.1 update. Did, however, recently 5.0.1, with as main change the fix for the sms bug for Nexus users on the Vodafone network in the Netherlands.
