LG is going in the second half of 2012, an oled tv with a diagonal screen size of 55″ to introduce. This has the company disclosed for the presentation of his tweedekwartaalcijfers. LG stops with investing in smaller oled panels.
The 55″-oled-tv will, according to Kwon Young-soo, ceo of LG Display, in the first instance, in a small edition to be produced, due to limited production capacity, but the company will be the production of bigger if there is more demand. According to Kwon Young-soo would it go to ‘a few tens of thousands of pieces per month, so to read in WhatHifi.
LG will invest more in larger oled panels, because the company’s margin on small oled screens for smartphones and tablets too low. The market leader in this segment is Samsung, which not only oled displays in its Galaxy S series smartphones, but these also provide to third parties. LG see more bread in the production of smaller lcd’s on the basis of ah-ips.
LG already has a 15″oled tv in its product range and demonstrated at the IFA 2010 a 31″-oled-tv. This last has 3d support, and makes use of LG’s passive 3d technology. Originally, the 31″-oled-tv around march in the Netherlands to be introduced, but this has not happened. It is not known whether and when this will happen, and what the price is.
The Korean company managed its operating loss, compared with a quarter earlier to reduce from approximately 158 million to almost 32 million euro. The turnover increased in this period by 13% to 3,96 billion euro.
