KPN will start early next year with the roll-out of its 4g network based on lte, reports a GoT-moderator. The successor of umts and hsdpa needs higher speeds possible on the mobile internet. KPN denies the rapid roll-out of lte.
As previously announced, we have at this time all pilots in the region of the Hague, said KPN Monday night at a meeting of retailer The Phone House. That report GoT-moderator DaMarcus via Twitter. After KPN starts with the rollout of the 4g network in the Netherlands, it may still be a few years before the network nationwide. KPN has not yet responded to questions from Tweakers.net.
Lte is the successor of umts and, in term, much higher up and download speeds. In addition, the ping is much lower, which include gaming via mobile internet. Lte is still barely faster than 3g; the top speeds are around 100Mbps, while using 3g on the fastest networks 56Mbps achieved. In theory, lte, however, to 1Gbps, showed Ericsson recently.
KPN announced in 2009 that lte and not wimax, the successor of its umts network. This year the provider started with the pilots. Meanwhile, abroad, the first phones with lte come true. That of HTC, Samsung and LG.
Update, 13:52: KPN confirms the news, not, says spokesman Steve Hufton against Tweakers.net: “As you know we rotate at this time, practice tests with lte. On the basis of the results of these tests we will have our rollout strategy. As soon as the time is ripe, we will have the one and the other with the market share, but not now.”
