HTC has stopped the development of phones on the phone platform Brew from Qualcomm. The Taiwanese smartphonemaker has two Brew-phones released, but will now focus on Android and Windows Phone 7.

It is unclear why HTC will stop with Brew; the dumbphone Smart from 2010 was not bad sold it, says Drew Bamford, head of software development at HTC, in an interview with Tweakers.net. “We are now focusing on Sense for Android smartphones and tablets, and Sense-applications for Windows Phone 7”, says Bamford.

After the Smart brought HTC only the Freestyle, a device for the Us carrier AT&T. The phone was just as expensive as cheap smartphones, so critics suspected that the device is little added value. Followed by no new devices with Qualcomms Brew MP.

Phones with Brew are not smartphones, but ‘ordinary’ mobile phones. Although Brew has a browser, and many of the apps that HTC also includes on Android devices, the user has no apps on the device to install. Only Java apps can be added. In addition, HTC also Huawei Brew phones released.
