Hitachi announces to 4.5″-ips panel with 720p resolution and 3d

Hitachi has a 4.5″3d lcd based on ips technology developed. The screen has a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels and to the autostereoscopic 3d effect to achieve this, Hitachi uses an lcd lenslaag.

The current, small autostereoscopic 3d displays, including the Nintendo 3DS and the LG Optimus 3D Speed to be used, for the panel a so-called parallax barrier layer with raised edges, ensuring that the left and right eye the right image received at the 3d-view. A problem of this technology is according to Hitachi, however, that the brightness of the screen is cut in half.

Hence, Hitachi for his new 4.5″3d lcd display, designed for smartphones, it uses a lenslaag on the basis of liquid crystals to the rays of light on the right eye to focus. Hitachi claims that the brightness of the screen in the 3d mode to 470cd/m2, respectively. Strangely enough, the maximum light output in 2d mode, with 400cd/m2 lower than the 3d-mode.

The use of a lcd-lenslaag is not new. Also Toshiba makes up for its new autostereoscopic screens use of such lenslaag for the creation of different viewing angles, in which the image in 3d is to see. Also LG is experimenting with autostereoscopic 3d. For example, it has recently Flatron-monitor announced that, with the help of a panel with an active lcd-lenslaag and a webcam, the user can follow and the picture can adjust to the position of the eyes.
