Fujitsu shows improved e-paper

Fujitsu has on the International Digital Publishing Expo, an improved version of its color e-paper display. The 8″display 4096 colors without dithering to display, the colour reproduction is improving, and has a refresh time of 0.7 s.

The Japanese company has been developing for quite some time, e-paper based on cholesteric liquid crystals. As with the e-paper on the basis of the more usual elektroforerse of include E Ink, the e-paper from Fujitsu without the backlight, and the content on the screen is retained if the power is off. Also, the technology has no polarization and reflecteerlagen necessary for the display and are color filters superfluous.

In contrast to the previous generation of the technology, which is incorporated in the FLEPia Lite e-reader, the new prototype according to the video at DigInfo.tv no use of dithering. Fujitsu claims that the new screen is 20 percent of the Ntsc colour space is covered. According to Fujitsu, it is even possible to implement a full color display to develop, but that would be at the expense of the refresh rate of the screen. These two parameters are, according to Fujitsu direct influence on each other.

Fujitsu has also the contrast ratio increased from 7:1 to 8:1 and the ratio of the screen reflected light is increased from 32 to 34 percent. The sample has a pixel density of 157dpi and supports the display of jpeg-, pdf – and epub-files. The prototype runs on Linux.
