An autonomous flying drone managed to land on the roof of a car to 75 miles per hour reed. The precision embroidery was supplied by researchers of the Deutsches Zentrum f lwa r Luft – und Raumfahrt DLR.
The system that the drone used to land on the car is designed for non-military operations in the field, such as communications and remote sensing of changes. The autonomous system can, for example, be linked to an ultra-light, solar-powered plane in the stratosphere on more than twenty kilometers of altitude to conventional satellite systems to fill. It could also be used in disasters and for the provision of data about climate change.
The ultralight airplanes on solar energy at altitudes of more than twenty kilometers of flying and a few weeks remain in the air, as long as they are light enough. These unmanned aerial vehicles or uav’s can then do just fine without landing gear, so that the weight thereof can be filled in by all sorts of measuring equipment.
The device used is a twenty kilogram weighing electric fixed wing aircraft. The tests took place in the German Bavaria. The countries on the car was done on a special platform with optical beacons on the roof of the car. With those beacons can plane with a precision of fifty inches on the roof. The platform on the car mat four-by-five metres. While the countries had to car and drone at the same speed moving forward.
