Cisco releases new UCS-switch from

Cisco has its Unified Computing System family of products an update. New switches and i/o extenders have the available network capacity increase, and new management software supports VMware vCenter.

During its own conference in Las Vegas, Cisco has, that the last time came in the news with layoffs and deleted products, new hardware released on the grounds on which it feels most comfortable and at home: networking. It comes to a number of new products in its Unified Computing System portfolio, a series of products that are intended to operate as one system and Cisco also are offered as such.

The UCS management software gets a major version number, and ends on version 2.0. The management software now works together with VMware vCenter, which allows virtual machines can be managed. Also be policies, in terms of required bandwidth and storage, or security, to a virtual machine associated with it. Therefore, the policies to be valid the virtual machine to a different segment of the network moves.

A new ‘Fabric Interconnect’switch, the 6248UP, provides customers in a 1U housing 960Gbps bandwidth, spread over 48 ports. At least, this bandwidth is achieved if a separate extension is purchased; by default, the switch 32 ports. Together with the extension of 40 chassis with a total of 320 servers with each other and with the outside world are connected with 10Gb-ethernet-fibre channel and fcoe can be used. According to Cisco, provides the device up to 40 percent less latency, though it is not clear that Cisco, the switch then compares.

The VIC 1280 can be up to 256 network interfaces on one card to be virtualized. The card has eight 10Gbps fcoe ports. The 2208XP Fabric Extender has the same number of ports and the same bandwidth as the VIC 1280, but with a different purpose. This is intended to the blade chassis to the Fabric Interconnect-switch link.

Cisco has also netwerkoptimalisatiesoftware WAAS an update. The company claims that the new version bandwidth more efficiently handle the matter. Finally, it introduces Cisco security software for e-mail, which includes protection against spam and viruses. IronPort should companies protect against e-mailaanvallen on small groups or individuals. Cisco, the company acquired IronPort in 2007.
