In Amsterdam opens on January 16, the retrogame-hotel Arcade Hotel its doors to the public. The aim of the hotel is each room equipped with game consoles of the older generations. The Arcade Hotel shares provisionally the building with Hotel Aalborg.
The Arcade Hotel is a family-owned business of the from Montreal come Salmanovich and is a project of himself. He admits that he during his travels often are games missed, and on that basis decided on a hotel to open for people in similar situations. According to him, need a hotel is not the ‘home from home’. With his hotel, he wants to understand the sense of recreation of the typical game-basement with friends. Salmanovich wants to add ten new rooms build in an actual cellar, a large games room with a projector should be, and there are also new consoles such as the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 should be used.
Unlike friends in the gamekelder at home should there be a price to be paid for a night in the hotel. Depending on the room and the date, the prices may rise from 40 euro up to 350 euro per night. The hotel offers extra’s such as a library with comic books, a bar where even the drinks can be made, and there are typical Canadian meals, food such as poutine.
On 16 January, the first rooms open, and over a period of two years, the Arcade Hotel all rooms at the Hotel Aalborg take over and renovate. The opening happens during the Amsterdam Hotelnacht with a game-event in which teams can enter for a FIFA tournament that is played on the facade of the building. The hotel is located on the Sarphatipark in Amsterdam.
