“Samsung may new Apple A6 soc not make

The successor of the A5 system-on-a-chip that the iPad 2 is running, it will probably not by Samsung, but by the Taiwanese TSMC. Samsung was involved in the production of previous Apple socs.

Several sources in the sector would have said that Apple is working on in order to close a deal with TSMC to create a new soc, reports Ars Technica. This chip should A6 be called. Previously used Apple A4 and A5 soc for various mobile devices, including the iPhone and iPad. The cooperation with TSMC must lead to a chip is developed on 28nm process. Currently baking the Taiwanese manufacturer, chips are still on (40 nm), while Samsung’s A5 soc in 45nm manufacturing. A soc on the 28nm process is fried, it will be more fuel-efficient than the same soc on 40 or 45nm is produced. The production of the Apple A6 should start in 2012, which is still unknown what the specifications of the new model will be.

It is unknown why Samsung no longer socs for Apple can produce, but it is likely that the company from Cupertino not want to be dependant on a competitor in the market for mobile devices. Samsung makes several tablets and smartphones that with the iPad and iPhone compete. In addition, the Korean manufacturer with the Hummingbird and Exynos are own processors that are intended for mobile devices.

The two companies are not only competitors in the tablet and smartphone market, they are also embroiled in a legal battle. Apple complained to Samsung the devices Galaxy S and Galaxy S II, the iPhone would copy. A judge ruled that Samsung smartphones and tablets Apple must show in order to determine whether this infringement on intellectual property. Samsung complained in turn to Apple because the iPhone infringes on several patents from the Korean manufacturer.
