A researcher has a device that wi-fi signals can transmit on a frequency of 900MHz. That gives it a range of a few kilometers, and that is to ensure that people who use harder to trace.
It comes to the so-called Proxyham, which consists of a Raspberry Pi-moederbordje with a number of antennas, reports Motherboard. One of the antennas is used to connect to a conventional wireless network, for example, a public wifi hotspot. Then, there are two antennas built in that can communicate on a frequency of 900MHz, something that, for example, some telephone networks is used. The intention is that the Proxyham acts as, the name says it already, a proxy between the network and the user.
Because there are at 900MHz is being broadcast, the signals of the Proxyham from a few miles away to be collected. According to the author, that the name Benjamin Caudill adds, the signals can up to 4km far wear. Who wants to communicate with the Proxyham has a 900MHz antenna required that the ethernet port is connected.
According to Caudill makes the Proxyham for extra privacy for users. Those who are trying to find the location of a user to obtain gets the ip address of the device, while a connected user in a radius of 4km around it. Caudill wants the Proxyham going to sell for a price of 200 dollars, converted approximately 180 euro. He hopes in the long term the price to be lowered to 150 euro. The Proxyham will during the Def Con meeting in August will be demonstrated.
