Codenames of the AMD Southern Islands gpu’s diving on

The latest drivers for AMD’s video cards have references to the latest generation of gpu’s on board. In Catalyst 11.7 would be the code names of the so-called Southern Islands chips, or the HD 7000-series, are included.

Would be expected to the 7000-series graphics cards from AMD in the second half of this year to come out. The chips would by TSMC to be baked according to a 28nm process. These graphics cards were the 6000 series to follow, and are known under the name Southern Islands: the current 6000-gpu’s are also known as Northern Islands referred to and be on (40 nm) is produced. The code names of the individual gpus of the Southern Islands series would be the latest video card driver, Catalyst 11.7, are to be found.

According to a forum post on the German 3DCenter are in the driver four code names of the Southern Islands family. Tahiti would be the top model, and in a regular and Pro to the XT variant come true. The New Zealand variant would be possible with a video card with two Tahiti gpus. Still largely unknown is the positioning of the Lombok-gpu: perhaps that would be a high-end-desktopchip. However, seem there are four versions, Pro, XT, XL AIO GT and ordinary Lombok.

Also the gpu codenamed Thames is an unknown: that would be an entry-level mobile gpu, but would also be in the higher mobile segment. Of the Thames would be three variants: in addition to the ordinary Thames-chip would be a LE Thames and Thames Pro, XT, or Pro GL appear.
