Audi wants tracked car on the moon let it ride

Car manufacturer Audi is working on a project to buy a self-propelled toy car on the moon to convert and around there to drive. That has the manufacturer published. Audi is part of a team in the contest Google Lunar Xprize.

Audi has joined the German team Part Time Scientists, as the carmaker announced. This is also hardwaremaker Nvidia. The intention is to provide an unmanned mission to the moon, to send there an Audi Around Quattro around to let it ride.

The Lunar Quattro will not get flashed: the maximum speed is 3.6 miles per hour, but the question is whether the top picks in the rugged lunar landscape. The self-propelled car has four wielnaafmotoren to move. To visit the moon to shoot, there are two stereoscopic cameras on the front, while there is also a camera to materials on the moon to investigate.

The Lunar Quattro must go around drive north of the equator, at approximately the place where the Apollo 17 in 1972. The cart is made largely of aluminium, while a solar panel, the car power must be provided. That power comes in a lithium-ion battery.

Part Time Scientists is one of the fifteen finalists of the Google Lunar Xprize, in which there is a prize pool of $ 30 million, converted approximately 26.8 million euros, is ready for the teams that command the best run. Part-Time Scientists wants the unmanned mission in 2017 will launch, but some of the competitors planning a launch in 2016.
