“Almost half of people that movies and series download does that is illegal”

Almost half of the people that movies and series to download via the internet, that is mostly illegal. This is evident from the annual Digimeter of iMinds, a research into the use of digital media and devices in Flanders.

The number of downloaders that especially makes use of illegal ways to get movies and series to get also increases even among the respondents of the iMinds Digimeter 2014, from approximately 45 percent to 48 percent. In music, the percentage is much lower: about 34 percent are downloading music, mostly illegally.

From the figures it further appears that for the first time, the number of smartphones among the respondents is higher than the number of ‘traditional phones’. Approximately 57 percent of the Flemish respondents now has a smartphone. Android has the most market share with 53 percent, followed by iOS with 31 percent and Windows Phone with almost 11 percent. BlackBerry is among the respondents has dropped to below 1 percent. Flemish people buy relatively few new phones: 64 percent of the devices is older than a year.

Almost equal number of Flemings seem on the basis of this research a tablet to have: 55,8 percent of the respondents said a tablet, although the actual use is lower. A small part of the people has a tablet bought for their children and use it yourself. On tablets, is the iPad the market leader with almost half of tablets in use is an iPad. About 38 percent is an Android tablet, while 8.5 percent running Windows. About two-thirds of the tablets is older than a year.

Digimeter is the result of an extensive survey of research on iMinds this year has submitted to 2000 the Flemish people. The research group is weighted to age, gender and region. A part of the respondents to the questionnaire with pen and paper completed, a part online.
