TomTom brings local search service Places to smartphones

TomTom this summer with free applications for its local search service TomTom Places is for iPhones, and portable navigation devices. An Android version will follow later this year. Also the company introduces TomTom HD Traffic 5.0.

TomTom makes its local search service TomTom Places is available for iPhones, Android smartphones, and portable TomTom Live navigation devices. With TomTom Places, users can search companies and their products or services, after which they are the route to relevant hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, atms, or medical services dished up. Companies can pay to get higher in the search results, and they can make their own information on the platform change and the results of their inclusion in the Places-guide measure.

Places this summer rolled out to iPhones and portable TomTom Live devices. New TomTom Live devices are equipped as standard with the service, while the Android application later this year. The service is initially being rolled out in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Portugal. Then expand to other countries.

In addition, it announces TomTom version 5.0 of the HD Traffic. The new real-time verkeersinformatieplatform indicates, among other things, automatically road closures, and shows the precise part of the route on which the nuisance can be encountered. The service would stop when other road users are better able to detect, caused for example by road blockades in the event of accidents. TomTom has also OpenLR-platform Traffic 5.0 is added. TomTom HD Traffic subscribers receive the update to version 5.0 automatically on their system.
