Selfies in Doom

Almost 22 years after the release of Doom, the oershooter’ tempers are concerned. A hobbyist has a mod built with which the game is to play with different color filters. Also, in the game now a ‘selfie’.

The mod is called InstaDoom and only appeared on the fansite Doomworld. Mud Linguica added less than 37 Instagramfilters to its variant, from dark grey to tropical colored. Further, he came up with a ‘selfie’feature. This is with the main character on all locations a photo with the most gruesome monsters – of course with a selfiestick. The stick replaces the BFG weapon while that weapon is changed with the chainsaw. So it is faster a ‘selfie’.

Id Software released Doom in 1993, via an upload to a ftp-server of the University of Wisconsin. The engine was more complex than that of Wolfenstein 3D and brought some new features to 3d-shooters, such as blurring light, height differences in levels and texture mapping. To get the game running smoothly on slower processors such as the Intel 80386-models, it was possible for the game to run with less detail.

The classic takes place on the moons of Mars, Phobos and Deimos, where the Union Aerospace Corporation, a ruimtebasis has and is experimenting with teleportation. The moons are overrun with monsters and demons from a gate to hell under the surface of the moon appear. Now you can put together in different poses on the photo. “After more than 22 years Doom is finally finished,” says gamesite Kotaku.
