Researchers from the University of California before and Samsung’s research division have developed a technique to ‘geurtelevisie’ as possible. Smell-tv works with a module that 10,000 different scents can produce.

With the technique a scent to be disseminated if the user is viewing, say the researchers. The module behind a tv or cell phone has on each of two axes, a hundred smells, making a total of 10,000 different geurcombinaties can be spread.

The research was conceived and paid for by the research department of Samsung, which the technique wants to apply in electronics. Tv makers can the module in televisions and mobile phones to activate, and therefore has a certain scent. So would a movie scene in an Italian restaurant, a pizzageur from the tv.

The next step in the research is the development of a working prototype. The research has not focused on the question of whether consumers and advertisers are interested in the technique. Also, there are still bumps. So the module can only pre-set odors can spread, making it difficult to make a new scent to try advertising it.
