Japanese Fujitsu system picks up front in the new ranking supercomputers

The Japanese K Computer, a supercomputer made by Fujitsu is built and about 68544 octocoreprocessors, the Chinese supercomputer Tianhe-1A of the first beaten as the fastest supercomputer as of this moment.

On the new Top 500 list, which is semi-annually an update is provided, the Japanese K Computer with a computational speed of 8 petaflop the first place. The supercomputer of Fujitsu in the Riken Advanced Institute for Computational Science in Kobe.

With a speed of 8 petaflop let the rekenmonster the previous leader, China’s Tianhe-1A supercomputer, behind. This system scores of 2.6 petaflop. Number three on the revised list is the Jaguar supercomputer at the U.s. Department of Energy state and 1.75 petaflop scores.

To the supercomputers benchmark for the Top 500 list uses the Linpack benchmark is applied, whereby the processors a large number of linear equations for their choose. The K Computer, the new lijstaanvoerder, know the code to process a total of 68544 octocore-Sparc64 VIIIfx processors, each with a clock speed of 2GHz. The total consumption is 9,89 MW. Or the K Computer, a long time number one, but it is still the question. An American research institute of Cray, a supercomputer with a potential computational speed of 20 petaflop.

In the new Top 500 list are becoming more and more supercomputers to find that partly make use of gpgpu technology, among others, Nvidia; in total, 19 systems. Used 42 percent of participants processors with six or more search indexes, while 46 percent is equipped with quadcore instances. Intel has a share of 77 percent in this market, while by far the most supercomputers by IBM to be built.
