“German police are doing house searches for illegal e-books”

The German police has about fifty houses searched in a case against a webshop where pirated ebooks were sold. The website is now offline, as well as a related blog. There is still no one picked up.

In total, about 45 to 50 searches, reports Der Spiegel. Both sites, Ebookspender.me and the related blog Spiegelbest.me, its been since Wednesday, offline. On Ebookspender was for five euros per month for access to over fifty thousand German-speaking illegal e-books; on the related blog, the site was touted.

The searches include computers, phones, tablets, e-readers and hard drives seized. One person is a suspect, but the police have him still not be able to arrest. According to a lawyer of one of the people at whom a search was carried out was his client, only a “customer” of the platform, and he has nothing uploaded.
