  • Twitter and Facebook close Trump accounts

Trump was shut down from Twitter, Facebook and Facebook-owned Instagram on January 7 this year after the so-called storming of the Capitol. The following week, Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts were restored, but they remain locked and no new posts have been published on them. However, Trump's Twitter account has remained deleted.

On Wednesday, Facebook's so-called supervisory board decided that Trump's suspension from the company's platforms will continue, reports NBC News. The Supervisory Board is described as a body that wants to give the appearance of being independent and act as a “supreme court” for Facebook and Instagram, where users can appeal suspension decisions.

Facebook justifies the continued suspension by saying that Trump “created an environment that enabled a serious risk of violence” by claiming that there was election fraud during the 2020 presidential election.

The decision that Trump's suspension will continue is not yet final, it is alleged. At the latest within six months of the suspension, a final decision must be made by the so-called supervisory board.

At the same time, Facebook is under pressure from the Democrats, the US governing party, and other left-liberals who want not only Trump but also his sympathizers and others who express right-wing views are permanently suspended from social media.

On the other hand, there are many who are critical of the Democrats' attempt to pressure a cyber-giant to suspend a former president and other opposition platforms. Some liken the rise to fascism and Nazism.
