The French company Blade Group, which became known as the provider of the cloud gaming service Shadow (Test), has found a buyer. The Shadow team will continue to exist as part of Hubic in the future. As a provider of cloud storage, the new owner is not a blank slate.

Pioneer among cloud gaming services saved for the time being

< p class = "p text-width"> The takeover was preceded by financial difficulties of the Blade Group as a provider of the cloud gaming service Shadow, which ultimately led to the company having to file for bankruptcy in March 2021.

< p class = "p text-width">In a short email to the customers of Shadow, the Blade Group is now informing about the new developments. “A new chapter officially started for Shadow today. We are very excited to become a part of Hubic and to join forces in the relentless pursuit of making high-end computing accessible to all. ”

New owner in the cloud business no stranger

Hubic is itself a cloud computing company, but so far it has only offered online storage space for backups and data exchange, such as Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive. A real cloud computing platform, as offered by the Blade Group with Shadow, in which customers receive a virtual machine with pre-installed Windows 10 and the necessary drivers for a monthly or annual subscription price, has not yet been part of Hubic's offerings.

The future is called “high-end computing”

The Blade Shadow team wants to contact existing customers as soon as there is more to report. First of all, the future direction must be considered and discussed. “We will now sit down to discuss the future of Shadow in more detail and share further details with you as soon as possible,” writes the company in the email.

It is quite possible that the new owner of Shadow will also position itself more broadly away from games. The term “high-end computing” already suggests this. Even before the bankruptcy, Shadow offered customers full access to Windows 10 on the server, so not only games but also applications could be installed and used. With the focus on gaming in marketing, many potential customers were not aware of this. With Nvidia GeForce Now, for example, subscribers only get access to the games launcher and cannot run other software.
