GeckoLinux: openSUSE-Derivat mit KDE Plasma 5.21

GeckoLinux ist ein freies Betriebssystem, welches als Derivat von openSUSE mit dem neuen modularen KDE Plasma 5.21, dem überarbeiteten Gnome 3.38 und dem im Detail verbesserten Xfce 4.16 sowie drei weiteren Desktop-Umgebungen sowohl traditionell statisch als auch als topaktuelles Rolling Release mit neuester Software erscheint.

openSUSE als stabile Basis

Während die einem traditionellen Veröffentlichungszyklus folgende Distribution GeckoLinux „STATIC“ auf openSUSE Leap 15.2 basiert, baut GeckoLinux „ROLLING“ auf dem zum jeweiligen Zeitpunk aktuellsten Spin von openSUSE Tumbleweed auf. Neben KDE Plasma, Gnome und Xfce stehen offizielle Ableger mit dem von Linux Mint bekannten Cinnamon 4.8.6, Mate 1.24.1 sowie Budgie 10.5.2 zum Download bereit. Außerdem steht mit LXQt ein besonders leichter Desktop zur Verfügung.

A variety of GeckoLinux ISO spins are available with polished desktop environments to suit every need and preference. Each spin contains a well curated selection of preinstalled applications appropriate for the particular desktop environment.

openSUSE für Einsteiger

GeckoLinux möchte weniger versierten Anwendern die Installation eines alternativen Desktops und der zugehörigen Pakete und Anwendungen so einfach wie möglich machen und bietet aus diesem Grund für jede Desktop-Umgebung ein eigenes Installationsmedium an.

Die Systemabbilder können mit einem entsprechenden Tool wie beispielsweise Ventoy oder Rufus auf ein USB-Speichermedium geschrieben und als Live-System ausprobiert werden kann. Bei Gefallen lässt sich die Distribution schnell und unkompliziert mittels einer grafischen Installationsroutine auf der SSD oder Festplatte installieren.
