Samsung Galaxy S21 und 21+: Neues Design und neuer Chip zu reduzierten Preisen*

Samsung hat die Entwicklung der Galaxy-S21-Serie früher abgeschlossen und bringt Galaxy S21, S21+ und S21 Ultra deshalb schon im Januar auf den Markt. Die Kluft zwischen beiden Basis- und dem Ultra-Modell wird größer, weshalb hier zunächst S21 und S21+ betrachtet werden. Manche Features fallen weg, dafür sinken die Preise.

Bereits am 29. Januar will Samsung die Galaxy-S21-Serie in Deutschland auf den Markt bringen, bereits im Nachgang der Unpacked-Veranstaltung nimmt der Hersteller Vorbestellungen entgegen. Man sei mit der Entwicklung der Smartphones eben einfach früher als die letzten Jahre fertig gewesen, erklärte Samsung auf Nachfrage.

Samsung reduziert Preise um bis zu 150 Euro

Die Smartphones kommen aber nicht nur früher, sondern auch zu niedrigeren Preisen auf den Markt, wenngleich das mit dem ein oder anderen Einschnitt im Vergleich zum Vorjahr einhergeht – dazu später mehr. Das Galaxy S21 startet bei 849 Euro, während das Galaxy S20 in der 5G-Variante noch bei 999 Euro lag. Ohne 5G war das Galaxy S20 für 899 Euro zu haben. Das Galaxy S21+ kommt ab 1.049 Euro nach Deutschland, beim Galaxy S20+ 5G waren es 1.099 Euro und ohne 5G 999 Euro. Variante ohne 5G bietet Samsung dieses Jahr nicht mehr an. Vorbesteller eines der Smartphones erhalten die Galaxy Buds Live (Test) und eines der neuen Galaxy SmartTags kostenlos dazu.

Samsung bezeichnet die neuen Smartphones weiterhin als Flaggschiffe, grenzt sie aber stärker vom Galaxy S21 Ultra ab, nachdem ähnliche Maßnahmen bereits beim Galaxy Note 20 zu beobachten waren, als einzig dem Galaxy Note 20 Ultra (Test) die vollständige Ausstattung in Bereichen wie Display und Kameras spendiert wurde.

Die Kamera geht in den Rahmen über

Vollständig neu ist das Design mit eklatant umgestaltetem Kameramodul, dessen Einfassung im oberen und linken Bereich fließend in den Metallrahmen übergeht. Die Rückseite des Galaxy S21 besteht aus Polycarbonat statt Glas, erst das Galaxy S21+ erhält das neue Gorilla Glass Victus nicht nur vorne, sondern auch hinten. Hochglanz schickt Samsung in den Ruhestand, da alle Farbvarianten fortan matt ausgeführt sind. Phantom Gray, Phantom White, Phantom Pink und Phantom Violet stehen für das Galaxy S21, Phantom Black, Phantom Silver und Phantom Violet für das Galaxy S21+ zur Auswahl. Exklusiv über Samsungs eigenen Online-Shop stehen ohne Aufpreis weitere Farben wie unter anderem Phantom Red und Phantom Gold zur Auswahl.

Triple-Kamera mit neuer Zoomsperre

Die rückseitige Triple-Kamera entspricht – an den technischen Daten gemessen – dem Aufbau des Vorjahres. Zweimal 12 Megapixel sind für Weitwinkel- und Ultraweitwinkelaufnahmen zuständig, eine dritte Kamera mit 64 Megapixeln kommt als Tele zum Einsatz. Wie im Vorjahr nutzt Samsung die höhere Auflösung für 8K-Videoaufnahmen, die mindestens 33,2 Megapixel voraussetzen. Das Tele ist somit erneut kein echtes Tele, sondern erzielt die Vergrößerung über einen Crop auf dem Sensor. Ein bis zu 30-facher „Space Zoom“ ist möglich, der mittels Zoomsperre stabil gehalten werden soll. Bei der vorherigen Generation war es unter Verwendung einer starken Vergrößerung ohne Stativ kaum möglich, das Objekt im Sucher zu halten.

Alle Kameras auf einmal betrachten

Weil die Kamera-Hardware keine Veränderungen aufweist, müssen neue Software-Funktionen den Unterschied zur Galaxy-S20-Serie herstellen. Erstmals können zum Beispiel aus 8K-Videoaufnahmen im Nachhinein einzelne Frames als Foto mit 33,2 Megapixeln gezogen werden. Eine neue Action-Cam-Videostabilisierung soll dafür sorgen, dass besonders ruhige Aufnahmen entstehen. Interessant ist die sogenannte Regieansicht, die im Sucher eine Vorschau aller verfügbaren Kameras zeigt. Ohne Unterbrechung sollen Anwender während einer Aufnahmen mit Touch auf die Thumbnail-Vorschau zu einer der anderen Kameras wechseln können. Das funktioniert auch bei der sogenannten „Vlogger-Ansicht“, die Frontkamera und rückseitige Kameras parallel aktiviert.

Exynos 2100 dürfte deutlich besser abschneiden

Für die Verarbeitung der Rohdaten ist Samsungs neuer Exynos 2100 zuständig, den die Semiconductor-Sparte bereits vorgestern angekündigt hat. Das 5-nm-SoC macht mit dem ARM Cortex-X1 als Prime-Core und der aufgebohrten Mali-Grafikeinheit zumindest auf dem Papier einen guten Eindruck und dürfte eine klare Verbesserung gegenüber dem Exynos 990 des Galaxy S20 darstellen und auch dem Snapdragon 888 Paroli bieten. Das SoC ist es dann auch, das mit neuem Bildprozessor trotz gleicher Kamera-Hardware potenziell für bessere Ergebnisse sorgen wird. Die KI-gestützte 3D-Analyse von Aufnahmen, um zum Beispiel den Porträtmodus zu realisieren, wird über den Chip abgewickelt. Beim Galaxy S21+ kann sich Samsung so den ToF-Sensor sparen.

Samsung setzt den Rotstift an

Apropos Sparmaßnahmen: Galaxy S21 und S21+ sind nicht einfach nur günstiger, weil Samsung den Interessenten entgegenkommen will. Es gibt auch Einschnitte gegenüber dem Vorjahr, die dies erklären. Mit 6,2 Zoll und 6,7 Zoll weisen die Displays dieselben Abmessungen wie im Vorjahr auf, gekrümmte Displayränder gibt es dieses Jahr aber nicht mehr, stattdessen sind die Bildschirme vollständig plan ausgeführt. Die Frage, ob Samsung dieses Jahr endlich die volle WQHD+-Auflösung mit 120 Hz unterstützt, stellt sich beim Galaxy S21 und S21+ erst gar nicht, da Samsung die Auflösung auf FHD+ reduziert hat. 1.080 × 2.400 Pixel mit variablen 48 Hz bis 120 Hz werden geboten. Bis zu 1.300 cd/m² sollen die „Dynamic AMOLED“ getauften Displays diesmal hell werden.

Keine Speichererweiterung und kein Netzteil

Auch beim Speicher setzt Samsung in gewissem Maße den Rotstift an. Aus 12 GB RAM beim Galaxy S20 5G werden beim Galaxy S21 nur noch 8 GB RAM, dasselbe gilt für das Galaxy S21+. Im letzten Jahr war es so, dass die Geräte ohne 5G mit 8 GB RAM und die Geräte mit 5G mit 12 GB RAM bestückt waren. Zieht man diese Smartphones für den Vergleich heran, hat sich nichts verändert, doch für einen korrekten Vergleich muss 5G- mit 5G-Smartphone verglichen werden. Der Nutzerspeicher bleibt mit 128 oder 256 GB unverändert, doch fällt die Option der Speichererweiterung mittels microSD-Karte mit der neuen Generation weg. Die Dual-SIM-Option besteht hingegen weiterhin, sodass zwei Nano-SIM-Karten oder eine Nano-SIM- und eine eSIM-Karte miteinander kombiniert werden können. Triple-SIM funktioniert hingegen nicht.

Das Galaxy S21 ist weiterhin mit einem Akku mit 4.000 mAh ausgestattet, während das Galaxy S21+ ein Upgrade auf 4.800 mAh erhält. Die Smartphones lassen sich kabelgebunden mit bis zu 25 Watt laden. Das Netzteil müssen Kunden fortan separat erwerben. Nachdem Samsung sich nach der Vorstellung des iPhone 12 noch per Social Media über Apple lustig gemacht hatte, in den Wochen vor dem Unpacked entsprechende Beiträge dann aber wieder gelöscht hat, vollzieht der Hersteller aus Umweltgründen jetzt die gleiche Maßnahme. Kabelloses Laden wird weiterhin ebenso unterstützt.

Alle neuen Galaxy S21 kommen mit Android 11 und One UI 3.1 auf den Markt.
