The music corps of the German army designed an evening concert in the Frankfurter Paulskirche Church, the not poured out only the fall of the wall but also the basic law in the compositions of sounds and voices.

St. Paul’s Church in Frankfurt am Main, is a memorial that is reminiscent of many things: 1848 to 1849, met the members of the Frankfurt national Assembly, the first all-German Parliament, to discuss a liberal Constitution. As such, St. Paul’s Church represents the beginnings of parliamentary democracy. In March 1944 it was on fire after air attacks almost completely. As such, it is symbolic of the destruction in the Second world war – but also for the reconstruction afterwards – as a Symbol of renewal and the rule of law.

In many historical layers it is also a special concert commemorating late Thursday, the 31. October 2019. There are only a few days before the fall of the wall 30. Anniversary. The Rheingau music Festival and the Hessian state Chancellery invited to this commemorative concert, which picks up on the events of 1989 immediately. Two particular heads behind this evening: composer Guido Rennert, is not only a composer, but also a clarinetist and first Sergeant, and Christoph Schei bling, Lieutenant-Colonel and Director of the music corps of the Bundeswehr. Together with the chamber choir and youth choir, Ars Antiqua, the music corps interpreted this evening of two works with a historical Dimension.

“We are the people!”

“We are the people. A freedom Symphony” is the story of the peaceful Revolution in the GDR in 1989, a musical in five scenes. The musical journey, bringing back the visitors in the Situation of a divided Germany, and leads him through various stations, such as the Leipzig Monday demonstrations, to United Germany, and, finally, to the Vision of a United Europe.

The Symphony is a multi-media experience: in addition to the symphonic wind band, with its diversity of sound, and the large chorus it is incorporated recordings of the voices of politicians. It sounds distinctive rates, with the division of Germany and the fall of the wall in connection. Walter Ulbricht (“Nobody has the intention of building a wall”) about Erich Honecker, Willy Brandt up to Mikhail Gorbachev. Or Hans-Dietrich Genscher’s memorable saying, from the balcony of the Lobkowicz Palace in Prague: “We came to you to inform you that today your departure…”. The Rest was lost in the cheers, and marked the beginning of the end of the GDR.

Mission: Emotion

“These original voices are included with the music, and then of course again a particularly emotional Note,” explains Lieutenant-Colonel Christoph Schei bling DW the compilation. But why do the music corps of the Bundeswehr is dedicated to all such endeavor? The symphonic wind band of the Bundeswehr, finally, serves primarily representative purposes (for example, the military music service when receiving the high state guests or funerals of high-ranking state functionaries).

However, the approximately 60 soldiers to the best riding in the meantime also numerous concerts. Concert band is an ensemble of the form, which in the last decades in the commercial music scene has become increasingly popular. “The Bundeswehr provides an ideal platform and opportunities to develop as a musician is fantastic,” enthuses Lieutenant-Colonel shit bling. “Even if you, as a soldier, of course, in order for a particular responsibility – also in our cultural messages.” The conductor of the Evening is, since 2012, the commander of the music corps of the Bundeswehr.

The basic law in notes

To transform a legal Text in sounds is almost impossible. In the second part of the Evening, Guido Rennert dare another Experiment. And proves that it is, and amazingly exciting. “70 years of the basic law – A German story” interprets the basic law, the text musically.

At the beginning of the preamble to the basic law – new spoken by Konrad sounds Adenauer, jr., the grandson of the Chancellor, who announced in may 1949, the basic law of the Federal Republic of Germany for the first time. More children read extracts from the Constitution, accompanied by a singing voice, the “basic law subject” is presented. With his composition, he aims to create “an awareness of our country with all of its wonderful people, its diverse culture and its integration in the Western Tradition,” says Rennert.

You do not will have been the last to suspect, that the cooperation of the Bundeswehr music corps and the composer Rennert. Because: “In recent years, our ambition has grown, to make special works of writing that are just listed through this music, the body as an impulse,” said Colonel shit bling Lieutenant. The historical occasion for this, you will not be going out so fast for sure.
