For many people, the Maldives is the dream holiday destination par excellence. However, construction projects are a threat to the fragile coral reefs and azure lagoons. The locals are against the construction boom.

Maldives: Bauirrsinn in the tourist Paradise
The objective of the project: climate protection-money against corruption, protect and build confidence for investments in environmental protection.
Project implementation: Transparency International observed to be used as money. There are studies, information campaigns and legal assistance to combat corruption. Also, the aim is to give informants and stakeholders a voice and to prevent that the people will be doubly harmed by climate change, and corruption.
Project duration: 08/2015 until 12/2018
Project capacity: The project will be on the Maldives, Bangladesh, Kenya, Costa Rica, Mexico, Rwanda, Nepal and South Korea implemented. It is funded by the German Ministry for the environment (BMU) in the framework of the International climate initiative (IKI) in the amount of 2.499.392 €

The Maldives is a popular holiday destination known for its blue lagoons, beautiful reefs and white sand beaches. The island nation consists of 26 atolls and more than 1000 coral Islands.
Since tourism is the largest economic factor, has doubled in the past 10 years, the number of hotel beds. This exerts enormous pressure on the environment.
The area around the capital of Malé is already littered with hotels. Investors are artificial Islands backfill the lagoons and to rebuild. The Sand and the palm trees are often the result of natural Islands. Reefs are periodically destroyed by construction work.
The anti-corruption organisation Transparency International is the government for the Locals who have been ignored in construction projects often, although they are most often the victims.
