Dark, menacing sounds from the orchestra, and the trend is rising. From the seething mass of Sound, the piano emerges. Flap-like motifs in the style of the Russian composer Alexandr Scriabin tickle the ear, followed by a burlesque-playful keyboard runs, à la Sergei Prokofiev and swarming of poetry that is reminiscent of Sergei Rachmaninoff.

Then a crazy cadence, which can be written in its more muscular power delivery of the composer Dmitri Shostakovich would have. By the late-romantic orchestral colours the piece sounds as if it was written 130 years ago. The year is 2014 and the composer of the now 28-year-old Russian Pianist Daniil Trifonov.

On the keyboard Trifonov goes on completely in the music, acts like in a Trance. Through be strong-hands-game the piano sounds sometimes as strong as the one hundred-member orchestra. In the piece, motives and tones change rapidly, emerge like bubbles in a boiling soup pot, and disappear just as quickly.

Heterogeneous Composition

Michael Herrmann, Artistic Director of the Rheingau music festival, was the result of Trifonovs stay as Artist-in-Residence more than satisfied. Introverted Romantics

For the Czech conductor Jakub Hrusa, the phenomenon Trifonov explains the concept of authenticity: “How he plays the Instrument, how he experienced the music and lives in basically the same way, as he really is.” For Hrusa, apparently, is that Trifonov is in the game: “When we are together on the stage, I always have the feeling that he is not there, the music works just but it in the moment nachschöpft.”

Musical Baths

According to time-wise agitation in the course of the three sets the mood of the composition at the end of the piano Concerto is bright, triumphal and optimistic: Two minutes of cheering the mood to expel all of the emotional exchange baths, which were previously listening to.

In the end of the extended applause, the Pianist says composer a few words into the microphone – not audible route – and not the usual bouquet of flowers but a planted wine vine in the reception. A small note on the wine-growing area, the Rheingau Music Festival takes place every year..
