The reviews for Tim Burton’s live-action adaptation of the animated classic “Dumbo” are disappointing, but that won’t stop the Disney group of other Remakes of old treasures. Top Stars including.

An enchanting computer-generated flying elephant, a circus world that was created by Tim Burton in his distinctive Steampunk style, Danny DeVito and Michael Keaton has collected in an All-Star cast and a bittersweet score by composer Danny Elfman: Despite a number of rather average reviews, the Dumbo, will also attract disney’s latest movie with a lot of families to the cinema.

“Dumbo” didn’t even have to be the first cinema-weekend, as a critic of the newspaper “The Guardian predicted in view of the growing number of negative film reviews already, that “a Dumbo-Flop could jeopardize the Master Plan.”

What is meant is the systematic Recycling of the animated classic in the Walt Disney Studios. And the procedure certainly will not be as fast on ice, finally, the film group for the past two decades this strategy. Even if not all the Remakes were blockbusters, so brought and bring to the box office yet have enough money.

A Trend from the 1990s

Real-movie-Remakes of the classic Disney animation movies were first produced in the 1990s: in 1994, appeared to “The jungle book”, and in 1996 came out of “101 Dalmatians”. But it took almost 15 years until Disney realized the full potential of such recycling. Thanks to Tim Burton: His adaptation of “Alice in Wonderland” (2010) was the ticket sales in the billions to shoot and became one of the commercially most successful movies of all time. Disney seemed to have found a goldmine and its Remakes since then, some costs – with high expectations at the box office results.

The musical live-action Remake of “beauty and The beast” (2017) devoured an estimated 227 million euros, making it the most expensive Musical ever filmed. It has paid off With box office earnings of almost a billion euros, the Musical Film is on place 2 of the most successful films of the year. 1st place finished in 2017 by the way, “Star Wars: The last Jedi”, a production of the Walt Disney Studios.

Dreamland – clearly inspired by Disneyland

Ironically, critics see in Tim Burton’s “sufficiently charming Remake”, a “sharp Disney-criticism”, as the American news site Vox writes. By the explicit allusion, the Burton in “Dumbo” has created – the villain is a Mogul and Creator of amusement parks, Disneyland is not unlike that – to give the filmmakers that his passion was lots of work over the past years is the result of a greedy entertainment industry, à la Disney.

Several Remakes in work

The Trend for live-action adaptation will not stop this criticism for sure; the Mega-Studio will continue its course. On “Dumbo” will follow this year, three more Remakes: “Aladdin” is scheduled to appear in may, the much-anticipated Remake of “The lion king” is announced for July, and in October, a continuation of “The dark Fairy” (2014), based on the animated sleeping beauty from 1959 follows.

And this list has no end: “lady and the tramp” as well as “Mulan” are already in post-production; “Pinocchio”, “The little mermaid” and “The hunchback of Notre Dame” are just some of the other titles that are currently already in the implementation. Certainly not all disney will bring Remakes of billions of high-grossing results, but you will pull in the coming years, effective in the public attention.
