“Operation bloodletting”: UCI locks four cyclists

The world Cycling Federation UCI restricts, among other things, the former sprint star Alessandro Petacchi. The Italians argue that it is in the blood doping affair, the German physician Mark S. involved.

The world Cycling Union UCI has issued in connection with the blood doping scandal of the German physicians Mark S., among other things, against the former Italian sprint star Alessandro Petacchi of a provisional lock. In addition to Petacchi, the two Slovenians, Kristijan Koren and Borut Bozic, as well as the Croatian Kristijan Durasek are affected. The UCI stated that it had received information from the Austrian law enforcement authorities and acted upon.

Petacchi denied in the doping affair of being involved. “I know that Mark S. was a physician at Team Milram, as I am driven there. Maybe he has taken care of the German riders,” said the Italian, who is now working in his homeland as a TV Cycling expert. “I never went in his practice in Germany or elsewhere, has never had a blood transfusion. I have no idea why my Name shows up in the file.”
