The “Red” to miss the turn and experience the next double success of Mercedes. Vettel and Leclerc can’t keep up arrows in Shanghai with the Silver. Particularly, the sovereign of Monaco pushes after the race in frustration.

At the end of a frustrating service travel: Charles Leclerc was slowed by the own team out

“I’m happy to stand on the Podium. It was for us a good result, but not a Super result,” tried Sebastian Vettel to talk about his third place in the Grand Prix of China, a little nice, but had to admit: “We tried to stay in the Mercedes, but we have not done it. Right from the Start you were too fast for us.”

That Ferrari has done it on any day this weekend to keep the Mercedes at Bay, but only one reason for Frustration with the Scuderia. The other reason the house was made still more bitter than for Vettel, who could at least take a trophy for third place with home, was the 1000. Grand Prix of formula 1 history for his team-mate Charles Leclerc.

Vettel is waved

First of all, the sovereign of Monaco Vettel overtook at the Start the better, the right side of the road and pushed in on the top three. Then he drove several laps about a second in front of Vettel, couldn’t settle but, while the Mercedes enteilten the front slowly. Therefore, Leclerc got in round eleven, the announcement of Vettel over allow. “I understand Charles’ feelings and views,” said Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto, after the race. “But Sebastian was a little faster. Therefore, we wanted to bring him to the front, to see if he can pull over to the Mercedes.”

Stable order: The Ferrari team management preferred Sebastian Vettel (R) and “sacrifice” Charles Leclerc (l.)

The fact that this was not possible – also because of Vettel, in front of Leclerc herfahrend, smaller driving and braking built – in error, caused additional frustration in the young team-mate. He complained to the team leader: “I don’t know what we’re doing here, but I’m faster.” He was not still left over. On the contrary, Ferrari “sacrificed” Leclerc a second Time in favour of Vettel’s. Max Verstappen had pushed the Red Bull, in the meantime, behind the two Ferrari and was the first in the Box to overtake you then with fresh tyres, if you came in for a pit stop.

Frequent Change In Strategy

Ferrari, under pressure, was very quickly clear that we had to act quickly, and only one car was in front of the Dutchman in the Red Bull. Therefore, Vettel was brought in the next round. He managed to stay ahead of Verstappen, had to defend but then on the track of a violent attack and ultimately stayed out front. Leclerc got the job, it was getting worse remained the tire for as long as possible on the track. It was already after 20 of 56 laps clear that Leclerc would have to do with the front seats this time.

“For me, it was in the car, okay,” said a diplomatic Leclerc after the race that he had to let Vettel past. “But of course, this is frustrating. Sebastian couldn’t be really.” Criticism of the strategy of his superiors, he did not want to practice in front of the Sky-in microphone, a real praise sounds but in a different way: “The strategy has often been changed during the race. This has not made it easy for me.”

Leclerc again much later at the Box

At least the third: Sebastian Vettel (R)

Completely, the race for Leclerc was gone then, as he was also called in at the second pit-stop much later to the Box as his team-mate. Trigger was re-tapping verse. The Dutchman came on lap 35 in the Box and had fresh yellow Tires on it. The Scuderia had to respond and quoted Vettel immediately for a tyre change. Leclerc, however, was with the slower, hard tyres on the road, let them continue. It was only when Vettel his hapless team had overtaken colleagues in round 42, was also allowed to come, he finally for a tire change. Verstappen has passed, and while Leclerc’s cars was screwed. The Monegasque had no Chance in the remaining 14 laps against the Red Bull attack. Fifth place, where Leclerc landed at the end, was the Maximum.

And the team management? The spontaneously had no answer to it, exactly what it was that made the big difference to Mercedes: “no, because we have little clear idea,” said Binotto. “We need to analyze all of the data correctly and the next race in a clever prepare.” An explanation for the different strategy for Leclerc or even consolation for the frustrated protege, there was also: “I’m sure he is upset. We have to accept it,” said Binotto, and afterwards sent her: “This is a shame for him.” At least in this point, Charles Leclerc is likely to prove him right.
