The Council of the world Federation FIFA has approved the controversial club world Cup as expected. Many Details are still questionable, and the debate continues. In the centre of the review: FIFA chief Gianni Infantino.

Bayern Munich chief Executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has commented on the controversial Reform of the club world Cup and the European football Union (UEFA) and the European club Association ECA. “The previous club world Cup in December each year, is a nonsense competition. I understand the FIFA that this competition is now to be reformed,” said Rummenigge of the Frankfurt General Sunday newspaper.

Criticism from München: Karl-Heinz Rummenigge

On Friday, the Council of the world Federation FIFA had approved at a Meeting in Miami, the Reform of the club world Cup starting in 2021. The UEFA representatives voted, with the support of the ECA.

24 instead of seven teams

The new tournament with 24 instead of seven teams will be held in the summer of 2021, initially as a “pilot project”. The confederations Cup will be cancelled. The European football Union (UEFA) that had resisted vehemently, will be sending eight of the top clubs. From Germany, Bayern Munich is likely to have the best chances of getting an invitation.

Controversial: FIFA President Gianni Infantino

For many years, ECA chief Rummenigge practiced, however, criticism of the conduct of negotiations of the President of FIFA. “I think Gianni Infantino has missed, in the run-up to the decision of the ECA and, in particular, Andrea Agnelli as Chairman of the ECA to vote. This then leads to a defensive attitude in the Public,” said Rummenigge. He will regret this, “and it’s not like that between FIFA, UEFA and the ECA in this case there is no positive discussion thread. To correct it,” said the former national team captain.

If not, we ….

DFB President Reinhard Grindel had advertised prior to the Meeting in Miami in an Interview with Deutsche Welle for the innovation: “If we don’t host the club world Cup, make it to commercial providers.”
