The gap between Poor and rich opens according to the aid organisation Oxfam. Also in a strong gradient, the creators of the study write.

In the case before the Tuesday for the start of the world economic forum in Davos, submitted to Oxfam study, “Public Good or Private Wealth” (Public Good or private wealth), in the ten years since the financial crisis the number of billionaires had doubled worldwide.

26 billionaires have as much as the poorer half of the world’s population, said Oxfam Director Winnie Byanyima. The assets of Amazon chief Jeff Bezos, the richest man in the world, whether to grow in 2018 to 112 billion dollars. The health budget of Ethiopia is therefore equivalent to one percent of its assets.

The assets of the billionaires increased, according to Oxfam’s research in the last year by twelve percent, or an average of 2.5 billion dollars per day. The poorer half of the world’s population, have suffered, however, a reduction of eleven per cent – an average of 500 million dollars per day.

Women are particularly affected

Social inequality affects according to the report, especially women and girls. The global average men, therefore, have 50 percent more assets than women. Women were 23 percent lower wages, and carry the burden of the shortcomings in the health and education area. Per year they provided unpaid care and care work to the value of ten trillion dollars, the report says. This corresponds to around the 38-times the annual sales of the VW group.

The German billionaires have been able to increase their assets, according to a study last year by 20 percent. The richest one percent of Germans have as much wealth as the 87 poorer percent of the German population. In the European and international comparison, Germany is one of the industrial Nations with the greatest wealth inequality. 2017 15.8 percent of the population were thus of income poverty – a record – and one in five children was considered poor.

Oxfam wants to investment

Public tenders in the areas of education, health and social protection could contribute significantly to reducing poverty and inequality, writes Oxfam. However, these offers are funded dramatically. Oxfam therefore calls for investment in public education and health care, as well as a stronger and more effective taxation of corporations and the Wealthy.

In order to create gender justice, need to be strengthened in development cooperation, women’s rights, global and women’s organisations are better funded, according to Oxfam. In Germany and the EU belong to women, abolished discriminatory provisions in the tax law and labour law.

Corporations and the super rich would pay their fair contribution to the financing of the community, required to Oxfam. With black lists, and effective punitive measures States could take action against tax havens and tax avoidance. In addition, you would need to tax corporations appropriately – for example, with Europe and the world at minimum rates.

“Not A Zero-Sum Game”

The study by Oxfam, is contrary to the Munich-based Economist and distribution researcher Andreas Peichl speaks. He expressed doubts over the new Oxfam report and, in particular, to the alleged impoverishment of the poorer half of the world’s population. He could not understand the Oxfam Figures on the impoverishment. The assets of the bottom half should not be decreased “corresponds to the macro-economic reality,” said Peichl, head of the Ifo centre for macroeconomics, the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”. Rather, the world waxes, the economy and poverty is declining overall in the world.

Peichl acknowledges, however, that there is in many Parts of Africa enough progress and setbacks in the crisis countries of the Middle East. “But the main thrust of the Oxfam report, it’ll all get worse in the world, the parts I did not specifically.” He indirectly accused the aid organisation to draw the location in your senses: “There is a whole industry, which deserves to be with Reports that it is all getting worse and worse.” And he added: “It is not true that the poor get poorer because the Rich get richer. This is not a zero sum game.”
