We are tired of it! Demo for ecological agriculture

According to the motors of the 171 tractors in Berlin in a long queue in front of the Brandenburg gate roar. Diesel fumes waft through the air. From the whole of Germany, farmers are in a star travel on three routes to Berlin. Some were with their heavy tractors for two days on the road. Now you lead a Demonstration, which attracts tens of thousands of people for hours through the government district.

“Food is political – we are tired of it,” said the Alliance of around 100 organisations, which organised the Demo is called. Including farming organisations, environmental, animal welfare and development organisations. Flags and balloons waved, banners and posters held high.

In groups, loud drumming and whistle, a lot of people have pots, which you spoons to beat with Cooking around, from the tractors to loud music resounds. Some protesters have dressed up as a beekeeper, bees or pigs. More environmental protection and animal welfare in agriculture is required, but also the prohibition of large-scale farms.

The agricultural Minister, don’t mind me

To the foreign office, where this Saturday, the agriculture Ministers from 74 countries under the leadership of the state Minister of economic Affairs, Julia Klöckner days, not allowed to pull the train. Only a note of protest must submit it to the organizer. In it, you demand from the Agricultural Ministers is a future-oriented EU agricultural reform, a departure from flat-rate area subsidies as well as support for environmentally friendly farming with animal welfare.

Anyone who has been in the EU a lot of area, gets most of the Agricultural subsidies

A year, of which 6,3 billion Euro in Germany would be distributed in the EU 60 billion Euro agricultural aid. There are more than three-quarters of the sum was allocated as a lump sum subsidies in the area. “The 3,300 largest companies receive a billion Euro in the year, while the smallest of 200,000 farms have to share almost 700 million,” says Alliance spokeswoman Saskia Richartz. Klöckner had to finally end the representation of the interests of industrial agriculture and a policy for farmers, bees and viable villages.

Not thinking inside the box

However, the Minister sees himself not as an opponent of the protesters. Above all, they will not be as an enemy image to stamp. “I am sure that we need to run together and not in drawers, in generalizations of thinking”, says Julia Klöckner. It is a challenge to feed people. Even more In the future than it is today. “We will be in 2050, there are two to 2.5 billion people in this world and starving 821 million and two billion people are malnourished.” Nutrition is a human right, as Klöckner. “We will make you not sick and tired with a Partial phase-out of agricultural production.” It is on a more sustainable and more efficient production, the environment and resources to spare.

Also, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the Ministers of agriculture met in Berlin

A production which not depended on the size of the operation. As an example, Klöckner refers to “virgin lands”, an agricultural Association, whose members just a particularly animal, environmental, and quality-oriented livestock production propagate. “I spoke with a farmer who has 800 pigs at home, is not small,” said the agriculture Minister. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, there are farms where several families would get together to farm large areas. However, no agricultural factories.

Progress through digitalization

It is important to improve the quality of agriculture. Here, Klöckner sees far-reaching possibilities in the digitization. “We can capture, for example, the movement profiles of animals, and so to measure whether the Welfare of the animals is actually improved.” Digitization also help in Agriculture by the use of plants protection products accurately and thereby also reduced.

The digitalization in agriculture this year was the Central topic at the conference of agriculture Ministers and the accompanying “Global Forum for Food and Agriculture” in the framework of the agricultural fair Green week was held. The Minister set out that digital technology can improve the production of food in the world. The world food organisation FAO to prepare a concept for a Digitalrat, the countries and the exchange of experience. There is a big difference, as Klöckner. “In some countries, the digital ear tags of the cows send masts stronger than Cell, in other countries the electricity is missing.”
