Bauhaus festivities begin in Berlin

In 2019, hundreds of events, the characters of the legendary Bauhaus. To kick off the celebrations, Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier paid tribute to the influence of the school of art architecture and Design.

The training centre belong to the world’s most influential cultural impulses of Germany, said the Federal President on Wednesday evening (16.1.2019) in the Berlin Academy of the arts at the launch event, entitled “100 years of Bauhaus”. With a nine-day Festival of the Covenant be opened wide to celebrate the founding anniversary of the legendary art school.

Concert, Installation, theatre, dance, discourse, Workshop and Club: The densely-filled program in Berlin presents more than 25 productions with more than 100 artists from all over the world.

Let’s go with “construction.House.Sound. A theory of harmony”, a concert creation of the jazz pianist and composer Michael Wollny, as well as two world premieres: the Virtual Reality Installation “The Total dance Theater” and Richard Siegal’s piece of theatre “Txtorrent“.

The complete anniversary program includes the slogan, “The world re-think the” more than 700 exhibitions, projects and other events. To the anniversary of the Foundation of the Federal government, the cultural Foundation of the Federal government, the Länder and the Bauhaus institutions in Berlin, Dessau and Weimar, the Bauhaus-composite 2019 have teamed up.

“Great Things”

100 years of the Bauhaus is, said the President, “a huge resource for orientation in the Modern age of the 21st century. Century”.

The Bauhaus was founded in 1919 by Walter Gropius in Weimar and went some years later to Dessau. Under pressure from the national socialists, the Bauhaus artists in 1932, fled to Berlin. A year later, the Bauhaus was dissolved. Many of the artists went into exile. Since 1996, the Bauhaus sites in Weimar and Dessau, a UNESCO world heritage site.

Grand Tour of the Modern

A highlight of the celebrate the “Grand Tour of the Modern”, which leads to 100 buildings of the Modern era. Patron, state Minister for Culture Monika Grütter, who paid tribute to the Bauhaus as an “influential think tank”.     The Bauhaus started as a school of art
