Youth word of the year 2018: “man of honor/honour woman”

The Jury has decided: The winning word in the final round of voting for the “youth word of the year” against the competition, “leek”, or “sheeesh”. Brand new it sounds.

“Man of honor/honour woman,” call someone else to do something Special for you, said the Langenscheidt-Verlag in Munich on Friday. A 21-member Jury has chosen the word. She passed this year, including journalists, bloggers, students and a police Commissioner in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Judge Oliver Bach, a literary scholar at the Munich Ludwig-Maximilians-University, said about “man of honor/honour woman”: “the language of The youth has discovered this word again, and unlike before, it no longer is on a higher strata of society and not on men limits.”

Originally 30 terms had been the selection that show how young people talk today. In a non-binding Online vote was able to be elected since the end of August from words such as “lindnern” (to not do so prefer something not as bad), “Snackosaurus” (for a verfressenen people) or “leeks” (idiot).

The winner in 2017: “I pumice”

1.5 million votes were cast. The Jury had to decide for one of the ten most popular words. Leaders of the Online-voting “buggy” – for something that is full of errors. In 2017, the term was selected “I pumice”, a Synonym for “I am” and “I am’s”.

The publisher uses the search for the “youth word of the year” for the past ten years as a promotion.
