The new Museum was needed because the current exhibition at the Base of the Statue was too small. Around 4.5 million people visit per year, the small island of Liberty Island – between 8 000 and 28 000 of the day. Only about 20 percent of it can in the Statue, only around 7 per cent in the crown. For the new Museum, visitors need a Ticket for the ferry to the island. The Statue is to remain for visitors with complimentary Tickets opened.
