The city of Buenos Aires holds its breath: In the Copa Libertadores, Boca Juniors and River Plate will play for the title. A bitter duel between two clubs with strong contrasts and many similarities.

Since it is established that the local rivals Boca Juniors and River Plate in the final of the Copa Libertadores, the South American Champions League, meet each other, there is in Buenos Aires, the emotional state of exception. President Mauricio Macri, between 1995 and 2007, self-Boca-club President, before the final encounter it was decided – that he rather would not be, the eternal rivals met in the final each other: “you Know, what does that mean for a printer? The loser will need 20 years to recover from it. It’s a Finale, in which there is much, too much.”

Under “normal” circumstances, the “superclasico” between Boca and River is one of the most absurd sporting events on the continent. The last international meeting between the clubs three years ago was canceled by the arbitrator and not played to the end, after a Boca supporters attacked players of River Plate, as they were in the return game after halftime, on the field, with a pepper spray bomb. At the time, it was “only” a Libertadores first knockout round – a friendship game against the what is now.

Of the 247 official duels, two Finals were just. Just before Christmas in 1976, won Boca in the final of the championship; in March of this year, the River won relatively easily in the final of the Argentine Supercup. The Libertadores final is the second final duel within a year.

“What could be Better?”

One who was in the final of 1976, Leopoldo Luque. The now 69-Year-old won two Championships with River (1975, 1979) and the 1978 football world champion with Argentina. To play “the super Clasico was a dream; a dream that has come true,” he recalls. “In my Childhood, I have listened to the games on the Radio, or the result of the next day from the newspaper. And I said to myself: ‘How nice it would be to one day be part of it.’ And I was there. I made my debut for River, of all places, in a Clasico, in the year 1975. In the stadium of Boca, such as 2:1 won and I scored the winning goal. What could be Better?”

La Bombonera, the chocolate box, is always a witch – boiler in the case of duels against River Plate in the increased potency

Since then, the games against Boca were always something very Special, says Luque. In the Libertadores final between the two arch rivals he – his super Clasico will cheer Ritual, following, as he says, alone, trapped in a room of his house in Mendoza.

Opposites with the same roots

Polls prior to the semi-finals had shown that nine out of ten supporters of both clubs would have preferred to see a final duel against another rival. The Fans of River’t bear the thought of a lap of honour of Boca in their stadium – the return game will be played in River’s stadium and the Boca supporters know that a Triumph of River would make the still with abusive chants celebrated the descent of the rivals in League Two a few years ago forget.

For Non-Argentines, and the importance and emotional is in charge to understand the beauty of this Derby. For many followers, however, it is an enmity to the blood. The “super Clasico” in the Libertadores final is the culmination of a rivalry full of anecdotes, great victories and tragic defeats on both sides. At the same time it is a battle of the stereotypes: Poor against rich, “bosteros” (garbage collector) against the “millionarios” (the millionaires), working class, and solidarity against the cool Bourgeosie. The fan base of both clubs is sociological considered to be relatively similar.

La Boca, a migrant embossed port district in Buenos Aires, is the cradle of both clubs

Also, the roots are the same. Both clubs were founded in the a strong of Italian immigrants dominated the port district of La Boca. The Boca Juniors refer to themselves as “Xeineizes” (Genoese), and has remained in the area until today. Bocas is home to the “Estadio Alberto Jacinto Armando”, better known as La Bombonera, “the chocolate box”, in the 10. November will be played the first leg, is how the quarter: tight, loud, and the mood on the three steep standing room grandstands mysterious. River, however, La Boca is returned in the 1920s to the back and moved to the noble area of Nunez, where it plays in the spreading of a running track surrounding the stadium “El Monumental”. All of these opposites characterize the “super Clasico” and establish his myth.

Weddings will be moved

From the English tabloid “Daily Mirror” was Boca declared River in the past year to the “most important Derby in the world” before the Barcelona-Madrid and Celtic-Rangers; a classic, must have, according to “The Guardian” every football fan prior to his death once seen. “The match of all time”, as the final was baptized, has urged the Argentine economic crisis, Inflation, and Peso devaluation in the Background. The conversations in the streets of the capital, in schools, offices, and Whatsapp groups are turning to the game. Since the kick-off times are (10. 24. November) will be postponed sessions and meetings. Some question even attending the wedding of a friend.

A certain @intibonomo tweeted: “Am 24. I have a wedding to go to. Because on the same day, the final River-Boca is played, in the Chat, a doubt surfaced. It is moved? The bride-to-be argues that it is once in a lifetime; from the other side point out that, statistically, a re-wedding was more likely than a Libertadores final, River-Boca. What a wonderful country.”
