One and a half good years at Werder Bremen, Thomas Delaney, were sufficient to arouse the interest of bigger clubs. Now he plays for Borussia Dortmund. With DW, he talks about his new club and personal goals.

His last goal in the Bundesliga Thomas Delaney scored at the end of April against his current club, Borussia Dortmund. It was one of the three goals he scored last season for Werder Bremen. However, the Black-and-Yellow, as he himself admits took him, not because of his eye for goal – even if it is once a hit is successful.

“I’m not a Marco Reus and no Christian Pulisic. I’m not going to dribble on the field of play, three players manner, and the Ball in the angle place,” said Delaney in an interview with Deutsche Welle. “I would like to be in every game on the court, but that will not go in such a club. I’m in the Clear.”

Steep price, good quality

Regardless of the fact that he can, in terms of goals and templates, and better still, was the BVB still willing to shell out a proud transfer fee for the 27-Year-old. According to the “transfermarkt.de” it’s supposed to be the Dortmund for 20 million euros, in value, to secure Delaneys services. The Danish national player, and has an American father, there were also other offers, but he decided to stay in the Bundesliga and move to a club that offers him the opportunity to play in the Champions League.

“It was not an easy decision for me,” says Delaney. “I would have been able to switch to other Clubs, I would certainly have each game played. I could have been in Bremen to stay, but I’m here to turn myself in to the challenge.”

In response to the Dortmund Suffer?

It was exactly this ambition and this Desire, according to which Dortmund had been looking for in a midfielder. You wanted a player, the ickering between the own and the opponent’s penalty area tirelessly. Because the attack strength of Dortmund is the least of your worries – instead, the lack of stability within the defense had been the Achilles heel of the team. Thanks to the commitment Delaneys, as well as the other new entrants, Abdou Diallo, and Axel Witsel, they should belong to the defensive problems of the past.

“I like it, if you transfer to me of responsibility. I am best when I am one with the game. I feel uncomfortable if I can help others,” says Delaney, whose character off the field, in stark contrast to the energy he brings on the lawn.

The fact that he has shown to be a leader, was a key argument for the gallery. Delaney began his professional career at FC Copenhagen, the club where he made as a teenager, the breakthrough. He rose in rank and led the Team, after he was captain, to titles five and four Danish Cup victories.

Delaney is now back in Europe angesehenstem competition, with the difference that he now plays for a club expected to enter the K. o.-Phase.

Different Worlds

The fact that he has spent more than 20 years in the case of Denmark’s most successful club, have high expectations for Delaney nothing out of the ordinary. But he also knows that there is something completely different is to play for Borussia Dortmund.

“The pressure is on. We have 80,000 spectators in the Arena expect a lot from us. But the pressure to play well, also comes from the team itself,” says Delaney. “We have a lot of young players, who have won no major titles. The knowledge that you are well and that you can get this title.”

With 27 years, Delaney is one of the veterans in a team that also includes Youngsters, such as Achraf Hakimi (19 years old), Jadon Sancho (18) and Dan-Axel Zagadou (19). He is nevertheless determined to do everything Possible to establish itself as an integral part of the Dortmund line-up. However, he is not willing to promise the profit of certain titles in advance.

“I can’t say now that we are this and that title win. This is always difficult,” says Delaney. “But for me personally it is about me adjusting to life here and to know that I have been at Dortmund for a future.”
