In any major city, it lives best? The “Economist” is of the opinion that in Vienna. From Germany not a single city among the Top Ten. In another study, it looks better.

Austria’s capital Vienna has replaced the Australian city of Melbourne as the most liveable city in the world. This is evident from the annually much-publicized comparison of cities of the English magazine “The Economist”. Place Osaka (Japan).

It is the first Time a European city tops the list. Thus, the success of Melbourne, which had the title the past seven years ends. 140 cities were evaluated on the basis of criteria such as standards of living, crime rate, health care, culture, environment, education system and urban infrastructure. The victory for Vienna, it was extremely close. Out of a possible 100 points, the city on the Danube 99,1 received. Melbourne was minimal behind at 98.4.

No top positions for German cities

A German city is not represented among the Top Ten. Best of Frankfurt is placed on the 12th place. Hamburg, which had made it last year as only just on the 10th place, is now on 18th place. Besides Berlin, Munich and Düsseldorf are among the first thirty on the list.

Despite the first place for the Vienna European cities are not longer cut off in terms of overall quality of life as well. Only Copenhagen (9th) made it among the first ten.

New York, London, Paris – not a good triad

Australia and Canada dominate the Top Ten in each of three cities: Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide, as well as Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto. World cities such as New York (57), London (48) and Paris (19) is cut off due to traffic problems and high crime rates relatively poorly. At the very bottom of the list, Damascus (Syria), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Lagos (Nigeria), Karachi (Pakistan) and Port Moresby (Papua new Guinea).

Such cities lists enjoy regularly great popularity. In July, the English magazine “Monocle” published his own Ranking. There, European cities have a much higher priority: Vienna lies in this study, behind Tokyo. Number one: Munich. In the study by the Economist-but the Bavarian metropolis is only on place 18.
