The International Olympic Committee gives the green light to seven new competitions in the winter games of 2022 in Beijing. A goal: More women to start – among other things, in the Monobob.

At the same time, the number of participants in Beijing will be reduced by 41 athletes on 2892 athletes. In Pyeongchang 2933 participants were in this year on ice and snow approved.

The four-man Bob to expensive

“The inclusion of the new sports reflects our commitment to make the program a more youthful and ensure more gender balance,” said IOC sports Director Kit McDonnell. “With the reduction of the number of participants, we have sent a message.” For this, among others, the number of Biathlon-Starter has been reduced by 20 athletes. The decision of the Monobob and not the four-man Bob for women in the Olympic program, also has a financial reason. “The cost of a four-man Bob are three to four Times as high,” said McDonnell.

Medal record 2020 in Tokyo

The IOC Executive Board also blessed the schedule for the Olympic summer games 2020 in Tokyo. In the case of the competitions from 24. July to 9. August, 2020 will be awarded a record number of 339 medals in 33 sports. In 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, there were 306 medals in 28 sports to win types. The program of the Tokyo games also includes five new sports that have been included with a view to the young Generation. This includes skateboarding, sport climbing, and Surfing.
