The Rheingau music Festival’s Motto is “friendship”

Under the motto of “friendship,” offers the 31. The Rheingau music Festival, varied and intense concert experiences. This year, the Stars Annette Dasch, Gabriele Montero and Frank Peter Zimmermann.

In 1988 it was founded on the private initiative of the present Director, Michael Herrmann. Meanwhile, the Rheingau music Festival has grown to become one of the most important music events in Europe. This year, 40 locations along the 38-Kilometer-long land are set out in the hilly wine-growing region between Wiesbaden, Germany and the middle Rhine valley in connection with each other – a tourist scenic area, full of castles and palaces. On the occasion of the 100. Birthday is honored this year by the American composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein far and wide. So, too, the Rheingau music Festival, whose artistic Director, Michael Hermann with amber was personally friends with. Seven events will be dedicated to Bernstein, including a performance of the film version of his musical “West Side Story” with live music.

One hundred years have also passed since the death of Claude Debussy. The French composer, introduced away from all the conventions of a sound revolution, will be devoted to seven events.

Four of the ten events offer young musicians under the title of “Next Generation” one platform, for example through formats such as a “Klassik-Marathon” or “Young master pianists of the Russian school”. Public money is scarce, sponsorship

Unusually – at least for German standards – is the financing model of the Rheingau Musik Festival: From the beginning, it received no funding from the public sector. With a budget of around eight million euros, half of the financing comes from corporate sponsorship and the other half from revenue through ticket sales. In the past year, the utilization was 92 percent; 103 concerts were sold out.
