Germany: Good Integration, poor Integration

In comparison to other Western European countries, Germany performs well in the Integration of Muslim immigrants, well, according to a recent study. However, there are also negative experiences. What works and what doesn’t?

Multi-kulti has failed, Ruud Koopmans. The Dutch sociologist and migration researcher makes a statement, the supporters of the German culture of welcome, not like to hear. In his newly published book, “Assimilation or multiculturalism,” he comes to the conclusion that poor Integration of Muslims is not primarily the result of discrimination in the majority society, but the lack of willingness of immigrants to assimilate.

Challenge, not only to promote

Koopmanns demand: The allocation of Rights to immigrants should be given a stronger performance. For example, a private income, language skills, and of course impunity for the price of a permanent right to stay. The immigration expert has researched the very different Dutch and German integration a reality and to promote amazing results in days.

Germany’s neighbor asks little of its immigrants. The Dutch nationality, there is comparatively rapidly, the language requirements are low, the dual nationality is not a Problem. In Germany, the idea is such a generous, unconditional state inputs are still widely used, writes Koopmanns in an article for the FAZ in June. In fact, however, a different integration policy. Anyway, quite different than in the Netherlands. With clearly better results for Germany in comparison to the celebrated integration of the world masters from the neighboring country.

The Bertelsmann study: headscarf wearing women have it particularly difficult in the labour market

Germany integrated better than the Netherlands

Migrants in Germany are twice as likely to be unemployed and dependent on social assistance such as people without a migration background, but in the Netherlands, so many are up to four times without work and ten times as many of them live from social assistance. Also, significantly more migrant children leave school with no qualifications in the Netherlands compared to Germany. Fits to the better performance of Germany in the crime statistics and on the subject of Ghetto formation in cities.

Findings such as these fit to the current Bertelsmann study, which Germany, in particular for the labour market, a good integration of performance, certificated in comparison to other Western European countries. This applies explicitly to the period before the refugee crisis. Accordingly, 73 percent, of the children born with Muslim parents with English growing up as a first language. Is also grown the level of education of migrant children.

The headscarf as a barrier to the workplace

80 percent of Germans according to the study, to mind, to be a neighbor of Muslim immigrants, the Director of the Bertelmann Foundation, Stephan Vopel in the DW-interview. Major problems with the acceptance of German Muslims, to recognize their religiosity in everyday life open. Headscarf wearing women, it is therefore particularly difficult in the labour market, so Vopel. Although 60 percent of the 4.7 million Muslims in Germany work full-time, it is mainly the pious Muslims, the worse placement and acceptance of opportunities in the world of work.

The can also confirm Boris Palmer. The green mayor of Tübingen, care regularly from the consensus of its refugee – and immigration-friendly party. Contrary to the majority opinion of his party, the Palmer warns again and again against Overburdening the company in the refugee intake. Above all, he advocates the deportation for rejected asylum seekers. Integration, he maintains, in particular, in the case of Muslims, the rate of the position of women is different, dealing with Gay and lesbian people in Germany don’t know and other clothing, traditions, public show, for very difficult, he said in the Interview.

Not always with his green party, agree in the refugee policy: Tübingen mayor Boris Palmer

Palmer experienced in his city a “culture break”, as he calls it. Who was ripped as a Migrant from his family environment did not have good opportunities to master the school in the Stranger. A Problem especially for young men, Palmer, occur rarely in the Botanical garden of the city and their money with selling drugs earn. Statements such as these fit in a long time in the political and social Mainstream. Meanwhile, the sometimes naively positive attitude towards refugees has to get through real-world experiences a correction. What does not work in spite of all the integration achievements of well-illustrated by the example of the so-called Maghreb quarter in Düsseldorf.

“Analysis of project Casablanca” in Düsseldorf

The district of Oberbilk, directly behind the Central station, is considered to be the “little Morocco”. Here are the North Africans, who have created many small shops and cafes in a home in a small format live for quite some time. Since the Opening of the borders in the autumn of 2015, the share of Germany, come the North Africans, has focused particularly in North Rhine-Westphalia. 80 percent of them came here, many to Düsseldorf.

Since the Cologne’s new year’s eve 2015, had harassed in the hundreds of young, male North African women and girls in front of the Cologne Cathedral, sexually, shows the düsseldorf police permanent presence in the “little Morocco”. Long the neighborhood was a crime focus. Moroccan shop owners who are already long in Düsseldorf, had called the police. “Don’t want to work”, an old-established country man. “See that Couple kissing on the street, you drink alcohol, you are not accustomed to, and be aggressive.”

Cologne new year’s eve 2015: A course correction in the perception of certain groups of Refugees

Alone in 2016, the 2,500 suspects were registered in large-scale raids. It was more than 4,000 offences. In the meantime, has calmed down the situation and the atmosphere, but the example of Düsseldorf shows how different the analyses of the degree of integration of immigrants in Germany fail. For that reason alone, because Alt-immigrants, war refugees, poverty, immigrants, Muslims, Christians and Non-Religious will and their assimilation capability are hardly comparable in their Integration.
