It’s official: The two South American countries Uruguay and Argentina to jointly apply for the right to host the football world Cup in 2030. The world Cup would return to their place of origin.

It’s a symbol would be a promising anniversary: 100 years after the world Cup Premiere in 1930, in Montevideo, capital of Uruguay, will carry the country, together with neighboring Argentina, the world Cup in 2030. This has the Uruguayan head of government of Tabare Vazquez ahead of a visit to his Argentine colleague, Mauricio Macri on 30 August announced.
The final of the first world Cup in 1930, was won by Uruguay 4:2 – ironically, against Argentina. Now, the two finalists compete of at the time, so for a joint world Cup with venues in both countries. Already in 1978, Argentina was hosting a world Cup. With the final tournament in 2014 in Brazil, South America has been the fifth Time overall world Cup organisers.
Already since the beginning of last year, the two leaders of the South American countries are working intensively on a job application. “We reaffirm that we work closely together in the Organisation of the world Cup in 2030 to be sought in Uruguay and Argentina”, Macri explained at the time.
Interesting here is that Both Macri, as well as Vazquez entered in the policy, after they had successfully exercised the presidency of football clubs. The socialist Vazquez led the club Club Atlético Progreso to his first championship, while the conservative Macri at the helm of Boca Juniors 17 celebrated title of the most popular club in Argentina.
The world Cup 2018 will be held in Russia, 2022 tournament in Qatar. The host of the world Cup finals in 2026 will be announced in may 2020. While applications from Europe and Asia, so the organizing continental associations, the next two editions are not allowed, first of all. As the candidates have brought to the United States, Canada and Mexico in a three-way application, as well as Morocco. An application from South America to 2030, is likely to know, therefore, again, strong competition from Europe.
