DW: How is your contact to the Fans?

The Fans are totally important! I am convinced: If you love to give back to you love. You reap what you sow. And during the game, you have to have self-confidence. So you win Fans for you. And this, in turn, gives you more self-confidence. Believe in you, and you will win the Faith of the Fans.

I had a fantastic time in Barcelona. But what I experienced here in Dortmund, when I came back after my injury, that was completely new to me. Since I just had a horrible month behind me.

How did you get the 11. April 2017? And what has changed in Dortmund after the bomb attack on the BVB team bus? You have been injured in this attack.

I couldn’t believe it! There are no words to describe the. In the first hours and days in the hospital I tried not to think about it. I just wanted to forget where I was.

The attack on the BVB Bus, occurred shortly before the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Monaco

Then I started to watch TV and follow Social Media, I’ve seen how people have supported each other. It impressed me so much, as our Fans have been invited to the Monaco Fans. This has touched me very much. If you have really experienced hard times like this, then you know to appreciate the people that support you and like you. And all this happened during my first year here at BVB.

When I was back on the playing field returned to am – it was incredible. I had goosebumps, as all Fans of my name sang. After the game I went to Fans. This is a Moment I will never forget.

How would you describe the typical Dortmund Fan?

As loyal. That is the appropriate word. Loyal, without conditions. We had strands a lot of luck. But even if we have lost two, three games, or as we have lost against FC Bayern – Fans to cheer us always.

You are one of the favorite players of many BVB Fans. Especially young girls, wear the Jersey with your name on it.

[laughs]. I don’t know about. I have really no idea. You’d have to ask the girls. But I think there’s nothing Bad in it.

What is the football would be without the Fans?

The no more football about then really. The game lives from the Fans!
