The Statue of the Little mermaid in Copenhagen is again been defaced – this Time apparently by animal rights activists.

The landmark of the Danish capital had become “a victim of acts of vandalism” with red paint, police said on Tuesday, via the short message service Twitter. “We’re on the case.” The newspaper Politiken has published a photo. Before the Little mermaid was written, therefore, also with red “Denmark to defend the whales of the Faroe Islands”.

The Faroe Islands are an Autonomous Danish group of Islands in the North Atlantic. There are up to today, the Tradition is to drive whales, mainly pilot whales into a Bay or a Fjord, and there with a long Blade to stab.

The Little mermaid has been sitting for 1913 on a rock in the Bay of Copenhagen. It represents the character from the eponymous fairy tale by the Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen.

The Statue is in Denmark as a national cultural asset and is one of the most famous attractions of the country. Since the 1960s, she was repeatedly the victim of vandalism. Twice – in 1964 and in 1998, was beheaded the Little mermaid; once it was amputated an Arm. In addition, it was painted with color and the water encountered.

In 2004, the Small sea was veiled virgin in a burqa. It was a Protest against the EU-membership of Turkey. In 2010, the Statue made a trip to China, where it was exhibited at the Expo in Shanghai.
